Business Intelligence Analyst - BI - Gloucester - Cheltenham - £40-50k.



Job Purpose

The job holder will have experience in professional services and have overall responsibility for setting up and running the Business Intelligence function from a technical standpoint. They will be a key contributor to the new commercial function, and the job holder will need to understand the business question and translate that business question into analytics. They will need to combine and analyse external and internal data to extract insights and provide commentary.



Knowledge, Skills & Experience 

-Degree in relevant, related subject or equivalent professional experience  -Excellent analytical skills 

-Experience with data visualisation tools 

-Experience with business intelligence software 

-Excellent communication skills 

-Preferable experience within the food and drink industry



Main Duties (including % of time spent)

-Produce financial and market intelligence by querying data repositories and generating periodic reports (30%)

-Identify business needs and issues by building relationships and conducting research activities with key stakeholders internally and externally to the business(20%)

-Build and enhance data models and visualisations (20%)

-Develop tools and processes that can improve the insight and analytical capabilities of the business (15%)

-Work with the wider business on the overall data strategy moving forward (10%)

-Work within ISO and GDPR standards to maintain records and proficiencies accordingly (5%)

Key Tasks and Responsibilities



1. Communications

-Communicate the insights gleaned to non-Business Intelligence professionals within the organisation at all levels

-Produce report data for clients

-Communicate effectively and engagingly with internal and external stakeholders whilst engaging in business research and analysis activities



2. Analytical Skills & Creativity

-Use data sets and software programs and, understand and consume the results to deliver insight

-Communicate with clients, competitors, suppliers, professional organisations, or others to stay abreast of industry or business trends

-Prolonged concentration is required

-Disseminate complex information in relation to tools, reports, or metadata enhancements

-Conduct or coordinate tests to ensure that intelligence is consistent with defined needs

-Identify or monitor current and potential clients, using business intelligence tools

-Synthesise current business intelligence or trend data to support recommendations for action

-Maintain or update business intelligence tools, databases, dashboards, systems, or methods

-Manage timely flow of business intelligence information to users

-Identify and analyse industry or geographic trends with business strategy implications

-Provide technical support for existing reports, dashboards, or other tools

-Create or review technical design documentation to ensure the accurate development of reporting solutions

-Document specifications for business intelligence or information technology (IT) reports, dashboards, or other outputs

-Create business intelligence tools or systems, including design of related databases, spreadsheets, or outputs

-Collect business intelligence data from available industry reports, public information, field reports, or purchased sources

-Analyse technology trends to identify markets for future product development or to improve sales of existing products

-Analyse competitive market strategies through analysis of related product, market, or share trends

-Generate standard or custom reports summarising business, financial, or economic data for review by executives, managers, clients, and other stakeholders



3. Management of Activities

-Work to standard methods and bespoke methods as required

-Maintain library of model documents, templates, or other reusable knowledge assets

-Work within ISO and GDPR standards to maintain records and proficiencies accordingly



4.Management of Finance & Resources

Responsible for the correct use of capital equipment and efficient use of consumable resources



5.Autonomy & Accountability

Accountable for own work and realise the implications of errors on the business

Work primarily unsupervised with general autonomy for decision making
