What happened?

Amazon had hoped to create an AI that would select the most successful CV's and highlight the best applicants for a role, saving man-power and time. However, the comparable 'success baseline' was established using CV's gathered over the past 10 years, when the tech industry had a significantly male dominance. Such data had a significant impact, causing phrases including (or relating to) women, such as women’s own colleges or hobbies such as 'women’s rowing club' to be penalised. The mould of 'successful candidate' set from the previous resumes didn't fit many applicants, meaning they were at a significant disadvantage.
