Job description

Are you a strategic and hands-on finance leader ready to shape the future of a growing business?
We're looking for a Head of Finance to take full ownership of our financial strategy, operations, and small finance team, bringing insight, leadership and clarity to every financial decision.

As a key member of the senior leadership team, you'll report directly to the Managing Director and oversee all aspects of the company's financial management. From strategic planning and compliance to day-to-day operations, you'll ensure financial systems are robust, reporting is accurate and business leaders are empowered with the insights they need to deliver success.

This is a hands-on leadership role ideal for an experienced finance professional who thrives in a dynamic, multi-site environment and enjoys combining strategic thinking with operational delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead financial planning, forecasting, and long-term strategy.

  • Provide financial insight and recommendations to the Managing Director and Board.

  • Manage day-to-day finance operations - payroll, accounts, and management reporting.

  • Ensure timely production of management accounts and year-end statutory reports.

  • Maintain strong financial controls and ensure full regulatory compliance.

  • Develop financial dashboards and KPIs to drive business performance.

  • Support operational managers in understanding budgets and performance.

  • Oversee compliance with Companies House, HMRC, and CQC requirements.

  • Manage and develop a small, high-performing finance team.

  • (Optional scope) Oversee Insurance, IT, and Company Secretarial duties.

About You

You'll be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with at least five years' post-qualification experience, ideally gained within an SME or multi-site setting. You'll combine strong technical expertise with excellent leadership and communication skills, equally comfortable presenting to the Board or rolling up your sleeves in the detail.

Essential:

  • Professional qualification (ACA/ACCA/CIMA).

  • Proven experience leading finance within SMEs or multi-site operations.

  • Strong budgeting, reporting, and analytical skills.

  • Hands-on approach with the ability to manage both strategy and delivery.

  • Excellent communication and team leadership skills.

Desirable:

  • Experience in the care, health, or not-for-profit sectors.

  • Familiarity with funding, local authority, or NHS contracts.

  • Experience implementing or improving finance systems (Sage line50 knowledge a plus).

This is a fantastic opportunity to make a tangible impact, shaping the financial future of a business that makes a difference every day.

You'll work closely with the leadership team, influence key decisions and lead a capable team in a supportive, values-driven environment.

If you're ready to take ownership, lead with confidence, and bring financial clarity to strategic decisions, we'd love to hear from you.
