Job description

Logistics Manager

A key member of the Management team responsible for overseeing that the supply chain is efficient and effective throughout the organisation. The successful candidate must demonstrate strong attention to detail in order to oversee daily operations. In addition to having excellent organisational skills, they should also possess in-depth knowledge of logistics and inventory systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Work directly with the Operations Manager to create and implement best practice, processes and procedures to aid and improve operational performance.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and identify inefficiencies and cost optimisation opportunities
  • Show initiative to identify and rectify warehouse problems e.g. damages or abnormal deliveries from suppliers and ensure credits are issued
  • Maintain a clean work environment by keeping shelves, pallet area, and workstations neat. Optimise efficient & effective use of warehouse space
  • Ensure the integrity of inventory accuracy and manage stock movements with the help of direct reports;
  • Keep track of slow moving and obsolete stock
  • Order & chase suppliers for outstanding stock orders
  • Ensure all completed orders are despatched on time
  • Monitor quality, quantity, delivery times and transport costs.
  • Negotiate rates and contracts with transportation and logistic providers.
  • Recommend optimal transport modes, routes or frequency.
  • Resolve problems concerning transportation, imports or exports or customer issues.
  • Ensure compliance with import/export regulations and legal and health and safety requirements
  • Take control of packaging and provide appropriate, cost effective, high quality solutions
  • Take responsibility for accuracy of labelling to ensure correct parts/finished assemblies reach correct customers at the correct time
  • Conduct environmental audits for logistics activities to ensure processes are as environmentally friendly as possible
  • Manage coach and develop a high performing team that meets agreed objectives and delivers best practice results

Qualifications and previous experience:

  • Previous experience of logistics & warehousing as a team leader is required
  • Computer literate with a good working knowledge or Excel and MRP systems as well as ability to navigate shippers' websites (DHL, Fedex etc)
