Job description

This is an opportunity to join an established, global manufacturing business within their Supply Chain Function. You will report to the Operational Purchasing Team Leader and work closely with the Procurement and Planning Teams.

As Operational Buyer you will be responsible for the purchase order placement and expediting of a range of commodities, in line with production demand and forecast. Activities include the actioning of purchase requisitions and the generation of purchase orders within SAP, the communication and management of these purchase orders to the suppliers through to final delivery and the resolving of relevant delivery, invoice and price discrepancies. You will be expected to become knowledgeable about the inventory and materials handled, as well as the suppliers you will be working with.

To be in constant communication with all suppliers and production planning, ensuring the timely delivery of all parts and services as required.

Responsibilities:

  • Processing the output from MRP and placing purchase orders on approved source of supply.
  • Professional relationship management of a portfolio of suppliers.
  • Manage supplier performance through the use of KPI's and fact-based root cause analysis.
  • Implement improvement plans with suppliers when KPIs are not met.
  • Supporting the implementation of best practice purchasing methods throughout the supply chain to continually improve purchasing performance.
  • Expediting production materials on a regular basis with all suppliers.
  • Daily review of purchase order deliveries.
  • Ensure supplier delivery, booking in and invoice queries, as well as any general queries are resolved in a timely manner with the relevant MP staff.
  • Daily communication with planning and production departments to help meet production schedules.
  • Attending production meetings, feeding back supplier delivery information obtained as well as identifying new work order shortages to progress.
  • Support manufacturing and engineering in the timely resolution of quality issues using SAP QNs and associated reporting and KPIs.
  • Maintaining and updating accurate data within the MRP SAP system (price, leadtime).
  • Managing cut in and consumption of contracts.
  • Regular communication with commodity buyers to review ongoing projects, quality notifications, contracts, shortages etc.


Requirements:

  • Degree level education and CIPS qualification would be an advantage.
  • Purchasing experience gained within a low to mid volume OEM.
  • Strong MS Office skills.
  • Experience of SAP ERP would be a strong advantage.
  • Strong knowledge of supplier management.
