Permanent
Salary: circa £60,000 to £70,000 depending on experience
A growing technology organisation is looking for a Senior Data Engineer.
This is a hands-on senior role focused on Microsoft Fabric, data engineering and platform ownership. The organisation has already invested in a Fabric-based data environment and now needs someone who can help own, develop and mature the platform as it becomes central to reporting, analytics and operational insight.
This is not a standard BI/reporting role. The focus is on data engineering, Fabric, Lakehouse architecture, pipelines, governance and scalable data platform delivery.
The role will involve:
Taking ownership of a Microsoft Fabric-based data platform
Designing, building and improving Fabric Lakehouse and Warehouse solutions
Developing and maintaining Fabric Pipelines, Data Factory processes and Notebooks
Working with SQL, Python and/or PySpark to build reliable data pipelines
Supporting Medallion architecture, including Bronze, Silver and Gold data layers
Ingesting and integrating data from operational systems, third-party platforms and APIs
Helping improve data quality, reliability, governance and platform standards
Working with stakeholders to understand data requirements and turn them into scalable technical solutions
Supporting CI/CD, version control and deployment processes across the data platform
Contributing to the longer-term data architecture and platform strategy
Key skills and experience:
Strong experience in data engineering or modern data platform delivery
Hands-on Microsoft Fabric experience
Experience with Fabric Lakehouse, OneLake, Fabric Warehouse, Pipelines, Notebooks or Dataflows Gen2
Strong SQL skills
Python or PySpark experience
Azure data platform experience, such as Azure Data Factory, Synapse, Databricks, ADLS or Azure SQL
Experience designing ETL/ELT pipelines and data models
Understanding of Lakehouse or Medallion architecture
Experience with Git, Azure DevOps, CI/CD or similar delivery practices
Awareness of data governance, RBAC, Purview, data quality or GDPR would be useful
Useful but not essential:
Direct Lake or Power BI semantic model experience
API data ingestion
IoT, telemetry, operational or real-time data experience
Experience taking a data platform from build into BAU ownership
Who this would suit:
This would suit a hands-on Senior Data Engineer, Fabric Engineer, Azure Data Engineer, Data Platform Engineer or technically strong Data Architect who enjoys building and owning modern data platforms.
The organisation is looking for someone who can be hands-on now, but also contribute to future platform direction, architecture and data strategy as the function continues to mature.
Applicants must have the right to work in the UK. Sponsorship is not available for this role.
