Senior Project Design Technician
Salary: Up to £40,000
Location: Ledbury, Herefordshire (HR8 2FE)
Role Overview:
The Senior Project Design Technician will be responsible for managing and executing technical design projects, liaising with clients, coordinating with suppliers, and ensuring the smooth execution of designs from concept to completion. This role requires a strong blend of technical expertise, project management skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with clients and internal teams.
Senior Project Design Technician Key Responsibilities:
- Client Liaison: Collaborate with clients during pre-order meetings, request necessary structural information, schedule site surveys, obtain design approval, and ensure client satisfaction upon project completion.
- Site Surveys: Conduct on-site structural surveys to confirm product fit and compatibility (occasional global travel may be required).
- Design & Drawing: Interpret client-provided structural drawings, adapt existing designs, and generate detailed production drawings for internal use and third-party suppliers.
- Project Management: Use internal project management software to track and manage project demands, deadlines, and milestones.
- Supplier Coordination: Work closely with third-party suppliers to ensure the timely manufacture and delivery of bespoke components and materials.
- Packing & Installation: Develop an efficient packing sequence for installation, and prepare Job Packs for installation technicians, including Risk Assessments, Method Statements, Installation Instructions, and Certificates.
- Post-Installation: Participate in debriefs with installation teams, review project performance, and conduct job cost evaluations for future improvements.
Senior Project Design Technician Skills & Experience:
- Mechanical Engineering Knowledge: Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles as they apply to product design and system integration.
- CAD Proficiency: Solid experience with 2D CAD and 3D CAD, ideally with proficiency in Autodesk AutoCAD and Inventor.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with experience in client-facing roles considered an advantage.
- Experience: At least 4 years of experience in a technical or design-related role, with a proven track record in project management and design.
- Software Skills: Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, with an openness to learn new tools and systems.
- Organizational Skills: Strong organizational abilities with the capacity to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing project needs.
- Driving License: A full UK driving license is required for travel to client sites.
