Team of volunteers redecorate hostel, helping house two more individuals

A team of local volunteers from Worcester-based Hewett Recruitment kick start their jubilee weekend helping redecorate rooms at St Paul’s Hostel on Tallow Hill.

St Pauls Hostel, a charity set up in 1977, help people who experience homelessness in Worcestershire. Their vision is to make all forms of homelessness rare, brief and non-recurrent and they work using the trauma as a lens through which they try to understand why a person arrives at their door. Many people who experience homelessness, including rough sleeping, have a history of trauma, often in their childhood that if unresolved can create health-harming behaviours such as addiction.

Felicity James, Housing Manager said "Creating an environment that supports psychological safety and contributes to a person's emotional growth is very important to the way we now work here at St Paul's" and she added "with the demand on our rooms at an all time high, I am very grateful for the help of the team from Hewett who were able to do this a short notice. There efforts have created a practical difference to the people who will move in later this week".

The recruitment agency recently named St Paul's Hostel as their charity of the year, and these maintenance efforts are just one of the many ways in which they are supporting the hostel.

Laura Hewett, Owner and Director at Hewett Recruitment, commented “St Pauls is such a great charity partner for us – it’s refreshing for our team to be able to help in such a practical way, as well as the usual fundraising. We are also looking to support them with our recruitment knowledge - offering residents a series of employment workshops”.
