Spotlight on Megan, the Winner of the Best Undergraduate Business Student Award
Megan, this year’s award recipient, has demonstrated exceptional passion, dedication, and potential throughout her studies. We had the pleasure of catching up with her to learn more about her journey and aspirations.
Q: What aspects of your business course did you find most engaging or rewarding?
“I really enjoyed the collaborative learning, working with other students and lecturers. I found a lot of value in this style of learning, which I think prepared me for post-university life.”
Q: Did you participate in any internships or work placements during your studies? If so, how did they influence your career outlook?
“During my course, I used the careers service at the University of Worcester to find two marketing internships. The first was within the coaching industry, and the second within the recruitment industry. These opportunities were immensely valuable to me, allowing me to use my skills practically in a business environment and learn from industry professionals. I also found this experience helpful in understanding where my strongest skills lay and which areas of marketing I enjoyed the most. I'm very thankful for these opportunities.”
Q: Were there any business trends or topics covered in your course that you feel are particularly relevant in today’s market?
“Digital marketing was a key topic covered throughout my modules, which is highly relevant in today's market. It was fascinating to see how attitudes towards this form of marketing have evolved and how they are predicted to continue changing.”
Q: What key skills did you develop during your course that you believe will be most valuable in your career?
“For me, digital marketing skills were incredibly valuable, and learning to use Adobe software provided me with practical skills for the industry.”
Q: What specific areas of business are you most interested in pursuing now that you have graduated?
“I would like to continue pursuing my career within the Marketing and PR industry.”
Q: Are there any industries or companies that you aspire to work in, and why?
“At the moment, I am exploring opportunities in the events industry, but I would love the chance to work within the travel-marketing or outdoor-marketing sectors.”
Q: What advice would you give to current business students to help them succeed both academically and professionally?
“Academically, I found reflecting on feedback immensely valuable, and I would keep a feedback sheet open while working on new assignments. I also recommend asking as many questions as possible and making the most of your time in the classroom. Professionally, I would advise taking every opportunity that comes your way and really utilising the services the University offers. Also, take the time to develop yourself outside of your degree — it’s a great time to try new things and build your CV.”
Q: What additional factors (other than the type of role, salary, etc.) will influence your decision on who you work for, e.g., company culture, purpose?
“Company culture is really important to me. I’ve been fortunate to experience great company culture during my internships, so this is something I definitely look for in future employers.”
