Senior Product Design Engineer

Location: Kidderminster
Salary: £37,000 - £42,000
Hours: Full-time, Permanent

The Company

Our client is a well-established, family-owned manufacturing business based in Kidderminster. Due to continued growth and investment in product development, they are seeking a Senior Product Design Engineer to join their expanding design and engineering team.

The Role

The Senior Product Design Engineer will play a key role in the design and development of new and existing products, ensuring they meet industry standards and regulatory requirements.

You will be responsible for producing detailed CAD drawings, developing manufacturing programmes, and working closely with production teams to ensure designs transition smoothly into manufacture. The role will also involve research and development activities aimed at improving existing products and creating new solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Product Design & Development

  • Design and develop new products in line with relevant industry standards and regulations

  • Identify opportunities for new product development through research and market awareness

  • Improve and refine existing products to enhance performance, quality and cost efficiency

  • Contribute to ongoing research and development initiatives

CAD & Manufacturing Programmes

  • Produce detailed product drawings and technical specifications using CAD/CAM software

  • Develop production programmes to support efficient manufacturing processes

  • Liaise with internal teams to ensure drawings meet project and production requirements

  • Continuously review and improve design and CAD workflows

Manufacturing Collaboration

  • Work closely with production teams to ensure designs align with manufacturing capabilities

  • Provide technical support to optimise production processes and workflows

  • Support the implementation of best practice design and manufacturing methods

Project Work

  • Support projects from concept through to final production

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure projects are delivered on time and within scope

  • Ensure design documentation integrates effectively with manufacturing systems

The Person

  • Engineering degree or relevant technical qualification

  • Strong experience using CAD/CAM software, ideally including SolidWorks

  • Experience working with sheet metal and fabrication machinery

  • Knowledge of CNC programming, particularly for laser cutting or punching machines

  • Familiarity with industry standards and compliance requirements

  • Strong problem-solving ability and attention to detail

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team
