Control Systems Engineer
Location: Warnham, Horsham
Salary: Up to £57,000 (depending on experience) + annual bonus up to 8%
Hours: 8:00am - 5:00pm, Monday to Friday
Job Type: Permanent, Full-time

The Role
We are seeking a Control Systems Engineer to join the in-house engineering team at their Warnham site. You will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and upgrading production plant and machinery, including electrical and control systems.
This is a highly technical and varied role where your expertise in PLCs, servo drives, robotics, and electrical control design will directly contribute to the efficiency, safety, and continuous improvement of production processes.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain and repair production plant and machinery, including servo drives, burner control systems, interlock systems, and pneumatic circuits
Provide technical support and problem-solving for robotics and automation
Design, upgrade, and program PLCs (Siemens S5/S7), SCADAs, HMIs, and control systems
Work from and produce AutoCAD electrical schematics and PLC programme upgrades/conversions
Install and commission new equipment and control panels
Ensure compliance with European Machinery Directive, Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations, and other safety standards
Conduct mandatory electrical testing including fixed wire, PAT, HV transformers, and switchgear
Survey, maintain, and backup electrical drawings and PLC/SCADA systems
Promote continuous improvement and Lean manufacturing principles (5S, visual management, PIP projects)
Collaborate with UK and Central Engineering teams to maximise machinery and team performance
Skills & Experience
Essential:
HND in Engineering, preferably Mechatronics
C&G 18th edition qualification and confident working on 440V control systems
Experience with inverter drive systems (Siemens, Danfoss, SEW)
Knowledge of electrical safety circuits, control systems, and PLC hardware/software
Experience producing and interpreting electrical schematics and designing from scratch
Robot programming experience
Strong problem-solving skills, adaptability, and ability to work independently or in a team
Experience in heavy industrial environments
Good verbal and written communication skills
Desirable:
Degree in Electrical Engineering or related subject
IOSH or NEBOSH certifications
Experience with continuous improvement (CI) systems
CMMS knowledge (Computerised Maintenance Management Systems)
MEWP and FLT licences
Experience with brick or roof tile manufacturing machinery
