Control Panel Design Engineer

Location: Herefordshire
Salary: £32,000 - £42,000 (DOE)
Hours: Monday to Friday | 40 hours per week | Full-time, Permanent

The Company

Our client is a well-established and respected engineering business specialising in the design, manufacture and installation of electrical control systems for a range of industrial applications. Due to continued growth and expansion plans, they are seeking a Control Panel Design Engineer to join their dedicated design team.

The Role

Reporting to the Panel Design Manager, you will be responsible for the design and development of control panels in line with customer specifications and industry standards.

This is a varied role combining design, testing and commissioning, offering the opportunity to be involved throughout the full project lifecycle. Occasional UK travel and overnight stays will be required for site-based activities such as testing and commissioning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design electrical control panels in line with customer and industry standards
  • Produce detailed documentation packs using EPLAN or similar CAD software
  • Provide technical support to internal teams
  • Carry out inspection and testing of control panels in line with company procedures
  • Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT)
  • Assist with on-site commissioning when required
  • Ensure designs meet quality, safety and performance standards

The Person

  • Formal Electrical/Electronic Engineering qualification (BTEC/NVQ Level 3 or above)
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems, components and circuits
  • Experience using CAD design software (EPLAN desirable)
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • Willingness to travel and stay away when required

Desirable:

  • Experience designing control panels and MCCs
  • Background in water, wastewater or process industries
  • Experience in panel build, testing and fault finding
  • Knowledge of hazardous area design (e.g. COMPEX)
  • Relevant site certifications (e.g. CSCS/EUSR)
