Job description

The Role

A fantastic opportunity for a Nursery Manager to join an established, successful and family run agricultural business supplying to customers throughout the UK.

The role will require an individual with experience within the horticultural industry with the ability to lead a small team of staff, ensuring customer orders are fulfilled on time. You will ensure excellent customer standards are maintained and continue to seek and implement improvements to this growing site.


Responsibilities

  • Potting, to include making space, making sure each crop is potted on time. Keep sundries up to date. Potted correctly in right place. Watered in and cared for effectively. Batch labelled and dated.
  • Spraying programme put together, spray done methodically and effectively. COSSH to be kept up to date. Correct PPE worn. Spray book kept up to date.
  • Overseeing packing of jobs. To be packed to a high standard, labelled according. Sizing of wagons cost effectively. Loading of wagons.
  • Management of the team. To oversee the team's tasks daily to ensure they are working effectively, methodically and within targets set.
  • Maintaining nursery. Keep stock watered, looked after, weeded, keeping nursery tidy, grass mowed etc.
  • Keeping the system looked after, closed down in winter to occur minimal damage. Preparing weekend watering rotas to keep stock well looked after.
  • Keeping all vehicles looked after. Weekly checks. Monthly cleaning.
  • Health and safety. Maintaining high levels of safety. Correct PPE to be worn by all staff. All risk assessments need to be updated. Accidents to be reported to senior management and recorded, accident book is locked away and will need to be asked for.
  • Staff welfare. Keeping staff moral high. Pushing them to achieve our best service but being mindful of time scales and being cost effective. Keep a record of staff holidays making minimal overlaps.
  • Liaise with sales and purchasing on a daily basis.
  • Staff Training.

Requirements

  • Good management skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of horticulture.
  • Happy to be hands on and work outdoors in all weathers.
  • The ability to lead and motivate others.
  • Forklift truck licence and experience beneficial.
  • PA1 & PA6 certification advantageous (use of pesticides).
  • Own transport essential due to rural location.

Based Near Bewdley, Kidderminster.

Basic salary £25 - £35k dependent on experience.

Full time Monday to Friday.
