The Company

Our client is a leading engineering and manufacturing business that produces precision machinery and automation systems for customers across Europe. They are now seeking a Technical Author to join their European Engineering Team. This is an exciting opportunity for a detail-driven professional to play a key role in creating and maintaining high-quality technical documentation for complex engineering products.

The Role

Reporting to the Team Leader/Senior Design Manager, the Technical Author will be responsible for producing and maintaining technical manuals, assembly instructions, specifications, and supporting documentation. The successful candidate will ensure all documents meet company standards, are technically accurate, and are completed to agreed timescales.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain Operating Manuals, Maintenance Manuals, Detail Specifications, and spare parts lists

  • Manage internal documentation, including assembly instructions, machine manuals, CE files, and risk assessments

  • Ensure all technical documentation is accurate, clear, and compliant with internal and industry standards

  • Work closely with engineers and design teams to collect information and translate it into clear, user-friendly content

  • Deliver documentation on time and in line with project schedules

Skills & Experience Required

Essential:

  • HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in an engineering-related discipline

  • Excellent written English and strong attention to detail

  • Computer literate, with good organisational and time management skills

  • Methodical, conscientious, and able to work both independently and as part of a team

  • Strong communication skills and ability to meet tight deadlines

Desirable:

  • Background in engineering or machine tool manufacturing

  • Experience in technical writing within an engineering environment

  • Familiarity with CAD systems (preferably CATIA Composer or CREO Illustrate)

  • Experience using graphics manipulation software (e.g. Photoshop, PaintShop)

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat Pro

  • Basic knowledge of French or German
